Clementine O’Connor

Clementine O’Connor is the focal point for food waste and sustainable diets at the United Nations Environment Programme. She co-authored the 2021 Food Waste Index Report, developing new global food waste estimates and a common methodology for countries to measure and report on food waste. Clementine hosts UNEP’s Regional Food Waste Working Groups where she is working with 25 member states on food waste measurement and reduction. She is a co-lead of the UN Food Systems Summit Food is Never Waste Coalition and co-convenes International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste with FAO. She is working in countries around the world to develop baselines, public-private partnerships, consumer behaviour change programmes and circular food systems.

Prior to joining UNEP as Programme Management Officer, Clementine helped develop and launch Champions 12.3, a high-level coalition to deliver SDG 12.3, with the World Resources Institute. She co-authored the FAO Food Wastage Footprint study in 2013, led the Think Eat Save campaign and was a member of the EU-FUSIONS team. Clementine was lead author of the European Commission’s Preparatory Study on Food Waste in the EU27, developing the first EU food waste baseline, environmental impact assessment and policy recommendations in 2010.
